VIDEO: The Stepkids - Legend In My Own; Announcement of CMJ, West Coast, & Japan Tour Dates

The Stepkids will be performing at the CMJ Music Marathon later this month. In addition, they have announced seven conference performances on their month-long US Tour with The Horrors that ended two nights ago in NYC. The video for their debut album’s current single “Legend In My Own” premiered recently on Pitchfork.com. Directed by comedian and “The Best Show on WFMU” host Tom Scharpling and featuring “The Daily Show” correspondent Wyatt Cenac and comedian Kurt Braunohler, the video sees Braunohler wandering through NYC in an 80’s hip hop-loving daze and ending at a backyard party joined by a cast of characters including faux-Lemmy, Buckethead and more.

The Stepkids’ groove is a fusion of punk and jazz, West African and 1960s folk, neo and classic soul, classic funk and 20th century classical. The Connecticut trio just released their self-titled debut album to critical praise (see press quotes below) via Stones Throw Records. The set was produced, engineered and recorded on a reel-to-reel by the band and they have received praise from Spin, Details, NPR, Pitchfork, Los Angles Times, Village Voice, MOJO, KCRW, CMJ, and more.
