The Red Bull Music Academy World Tour will make two U.S. stops this September—in Detroit and New York City–leading up to the 14th edition of the annual Red Bull Music Academy, which will be held in Madrid, October – November 2011. Each event will highlight elements of the Red Bull Music Academy experience on a unique journey through sound. Encouraging DIY initiatives, exploring technology, crossing generations and letting cultures clash: all the while facilitating creative exchange between music lovers around the globe. Other stops on the World Tour include Berlin, Cape Town, London, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Rome, São Paulo and Toronto.

Detroit is the birthplace of some of the most seminal records of all time; records which stand for whole musical eras – from Garage-Rock to Motown to Techno. The Detroit events kick off Monday, September 12 for “Motor City Frequencies”–a groundbreaking week-long series of concerts, workshops and discussions that pay tribute to the city’s musical heritage and highlight some of the pioneers and visionaries that call The Motor City home. Featured artists include Theo Parrish, Carl Craig, Mad Mike, Juan Atkins, Dabrye, Amp Fiddler, Mike ‘Chav’ Chavarria, Wayne Kramer (MC5), Dennis Coffey, Ed Wolfrum, Marcus Belgrave, Phil Ranelin, Wendell Harrison, Jim Diamonds and Nick Speed. NEW YORK CITY is the home of Hip Hop, arguably the most influential youth culture of our time. For five days, the Red Bull Music Academy World Tour will explore five classic hip hop albums from artists spanning the city’s five boroughs. From September 25 – 30, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan will be the landing spots for lectures and workshops about each album and at night, the artists will re-create their seminal work for a concert, bridging the gap from old to new school hip-hop.
